I flew Delta Premium Select. Here are my thoughts…

My husband and I have flown Delta Premium Select twice. Our first trip was from Atlanta to Amsterdam en route to Seville and the second from Dublin to JFK. Both trips were booked using SkyMiles. Here are our thoughts on the product and how we think it compares to Comfort Plus.

Seats and Legroom

As you can see, no danger of my knees hitting the seat here. There was plenty of legroom and the seats are noticeably wider than economy or Comfort Plus. The seat does have a better recline than Comfort Plus, making it a bit easier to sleep, but it does not recline so far that it really stabilizes your head from nodding off to the side. The seat itself is generally of the same construct. In other words, there’s no additional padding or cushion to make it more comfortable. If you want space, this has it. If you want a comfy bed, this is not much better than Comfort Plus.

Traveling with an infant or toddler? The extra space was amazing for flying comfortably with a lap infant. For us, this was cheaper than purchasing three seats and provided room where it counted: in front of us since we would be holding him most of the flight. Our kid hates car seats and would have ended up in our laps anyway.

Food and Drink

I would call the food a drink a slight upgrade from Comfort Plus. You get an extra snack served (cheese crackers) with a Prosecco right after take-off and another special snack shortly before landing. Both times we flew, the second snack was a locally made dessert. It’s a nice touch and feels special.

Both times we flew the meal offerings were the standard chicken or pasta. They were above average for airplane food but they were nothing extra special or out of the ordinary, though Delta does break out the white tablecloths. As far as snacks go, the flight attendants are more readily available and come by more often with snack baskets, but I think the offerings are the same as Comfort Plus. Premium Select does offer upgraded drink options from more “top shelf” brands.

Amenities and Other Perks

You will get an amenity kit with the standard amenity kit offerings: socks, lip balm, ear plugs, a toothbrush, and an eye mask. With Premium Select, you will also receive upgraded headphones. These over ear headphones do help cancel out background noise.

Another perk? Delta Premium Select also grants you access to the Sky Priority line at baggage claim.

Would I fly Premium Select Again?

The big differentiator is space. These seats beat Comfort Plus based upon having significantly more leg room. If you are very tall or have a lap infant, these are worth checking out. If you have a very long international flight of 10 hours or more, you may want the extra wiggle room. Otherwise, I would stick with Comfort Plus and save the money. Maybe you’ll luck out like us and find a great deal with airline miles. If that’s the case, why not try it out yourself!
