The Best Day Trips from Seville, Spain by Train

Traveling with a nine-month-old, it’s easier to pick one location and stick with it. When traveling with an infant, we recommend picking a central location, finding a place to stay with a kitchen (easier to deal with bottles!), and planning day trips. We highly recommend train travel because it eliminates the need to worry about a car seat.
Here are our recommended day trips from Seville by train, listed in order by travel time.
Cordoba
Travel Time: 45 minutes

We don’t usually gravitate toward the main tourist hot spots, but we couldn’t pass on the chance to see the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba. The sheer size of the Mosque is awe-inspiring. Converted into a Christian cathedral in the 13th century the Mosque is known for its red and white striped arches. Get there early; it gets very crowded.
Traveling with an infant or toddler? Many websites indicated the Mosque did not allow strollers, but we saw many inside. I wish we would have brought ours because it takes a couple of hours to tour. Also, plan ahead for diaper changes. There is only one bathroom inside. It’s small and the line gets long.
For lunch, we recommend Ristorante Damasco. Serving Middle Eastern food, it just feels like the right type of cuisine for Cordoba. Everything we ate was fantastic. They also happened to have live music when we visited. It helped keep our little one entertained and added to the atmosphere.
Osuna
Travel Time: 55 minutes

OK, hear me out. Osuna was a complete bust for us because it poured rain the whole time and we pushed around a stroller where it was not meant to go. But we both agree Osuna would have been our favorite place we visited our entire trip if the weather would have cooperated. We like authentic places most tourists don’t find; this was exactly that.
The best meal we had the entire time we were in Spain was at Taverna Jicales, a local watering hole that happened to serve the same kind of food your Spanish grandma would make. It’s where our kid tried and loved braised bull’s tail. We had a multi-course meal for less than $40. It was unbeatable.
We also recommend getting a coffee at the Casino de Osuna, mostly because the interior of the historic casino is beautiful. Climbing the hill to the church is worth it for the view.
Traveling with an infant or toddler? This is the day you leave the stroller at home and opt for a carrier.
Jerez
Travel Time: 1 hour

Jerez is all about touring Bodegas, where sherry and brandy are produced. We toured Diez Merito and would recommend it. It is perhaps less well known than others, but there was only one other person in our tour. We got to ask a lot of questions and had a very personal experience. Regardless of which Bodega you decide to tour, you will need to make a reservation in advance.
After our tasting, we needed food. Empanadas Malvon hit the spot. It’s cheap, carb-heavy, and has tons of empanada fillings to choose from.
Traveling with an infant or toddler? Diez Merito welcomed our nine-month-old. They kindly paused our tour a couple of times while we attended to him. Sherry bodegas are cold because sherry has to be kept at a constant, cool temperature. Pack an extra layer.
Cadiz
Travel Time: 1 hour, 40 minutes

We decided to go to Cadiz on a whim and it was one of our favorite places we went while in Spain. It’s right on the ocean. There are palm trees. It’s a beautiful little city. This is the kind of place that’s perfect for wandering around with no plan.
Traveling with an infant or toddler? Cadiz is walkable and stroller friendly. The Park Genoves and Castle of San Sebastián are both kid-friendly options.
